Postpartum Doula Services
Postpartum Support Care
A Postpartum Support Doula's role is to help the family during a time of adjustment and introduce practices that will lead to healthy habits. What a postpartum doula does changes from day to day, as the needs of the family change. Postpartum doulas do whatever a mother needs to best enjoy and care for her new baby. A large part of their role is education. They share information about baby care with parents, as well as teach siblings and partners to “mother the mother.” They assist with breastfeeding education. Postpartum doulas also make sure the mother is fed, well hydrated and comfortable.
Benefits of Postpartum Care:
• Increases success of breastfeeding
• Facilitates parent-infant bonding
• Decreases incidence of postpartum depression
• Encourages appropriate well-baby and mother care
• Increases parents' confidence in their parenting skills
• More education on what to expect from a newborn
• Increased baby-soothing skills
• Better coping skills
Postpartum Support Doula’s do not provide medical services or treatments for mother or baby, nor do we provide heavy housekeeping. Postpartum doulas support whatever parenting style you choose. We assist you with your needs making it easier for you to parent your new baby.

What We Do
The specific care we provide is unique to your personal preferences and therefore varies between clients. Some things we may do with you include:
• Provide hands on education on infant and mother care (breastfeeding, bathing, diapering, calming techniques, preparation of formula if bottle feeding)
• Create a nurturing, restful atmosphere in which parents may eat, shower and nap
• Introduce parenting tips, helping parents to learn skills that will enable them to
cope with their new responsibilities
• Screen for hurdles such as breastfeeding challenges or postpartum mood disorders
• Shop for groceries and prepare meals
• Help with housework such as light laundry, washing dishes, sweeping floor, etc
• Help initialize a routine for your baby and your family
• Refer you to another care provider should your needs exceed our scope of practice
What We Do Not Do
Clinical tasks of any sort (blood pressure readings, diagnosis, recommend treatments, interpret charts, etc)
Make decisions for you – we provide you with information to help you to make informed decisions for yourself and will support and advocate for your preferences.
Replace your partner
If you have a partner or another support person that will be helping you in your postpartum time, we will work with their comfort levels to reinforce their role in your family. A doula is no replacement for the love and history you may have with your partner and family.
General Outline of Care
The frequency of postpartum shifts will be discussed and determined at the time of the signing of the contract. Postpartum shifts will be booked with a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of eight hours per day. Overnight services are not specifically included in this contract but may be discussed if and when the parents require this additional care.
